This is our own home. We bought it brand new over 5 years ago. At the time it was a 6 Star energy rated home, BUT, it still only had single glazed aluminium windows. It’s a lovely home, but even although it has 6 stars, it can be quite cold in the winter.

 

We believe in our own products so much that we are replacing all our windows in our Newport home. We started with our upstairs bedroom window in the same style as the previous one, so it doesn’t look out of place. But, that’s where the similarities end. We have replaced a wind out awning window with a very nice thermally broken unit that has 5mm – 20mm argon filled airgap and another 5mm glass. These windows are west facing and have double silver low E coating on them that feel significantly cooler on a hot day. We finished off the new window with a stainless steel security flyscreen so that we can leave the awning window open and still have the house secured. Our bedroom is facing the street with heavy traffic. It's significantly quieter now with these high performance double glazed unit

 

We also replaced our sliding door to the rear of the home, it’s seriously heavy at 5 metres wide and 2.4 metres high. This door frame is also thermally broken, (in fact we only supply thermally broken products) and comes with sliding stainless steel mesh flyscreens, any one with dogs will understand what a huge bonus stainless steel security screens can make.

 

A really nice feature of this sliding door is the silky smooth way it slides, we use only the highest quality stainless steel rollers. There are four panels on this door, normally two panels would be fixed shut and two would be able to slide, but each of these doors is configured so that they can all slide open or be locked, now that’s cool.

 

So we started with a 6 star home, we are retrofitting it with high quality double glazing and we’ve also installed a 5Kw solar power systems, so our energy bills are really low. We can honestly say that our home is now much more thermally efficient and comfortable to live in.
