We love the concept of Ikigai, the reason of being is found by combining four essential elements in one’s life. If you’ve never heard about it, read more here. It can be life changing.
Well, the Ikigai concept has nothing to do with windows but I had the name in mind and this blog was inspired by it.
Windows and doors are a vital part of every project in the building industry. They bring natural light in and connect people with nature but they are also important functional components. The right choice of windows can make an enormous improvement to a building and the comfort of the residents. Well-considered choice of windows will keep residents cooler in summer and warmer in winter, reduce energy consumption and noise and benefit both the residents and the environment.
Let’s face it replacing windows and doors later on is hugely expensive and labour intensive. Wouldn’t it be better to invest in quality products and not have to replace them later on?
When selecting new windows and doors, we think there are four key areas to be considered from functional perspective. We are all different, what is important to one family might be different to the others. However, it is important to ask the right questions and understand the differences among window products available to you, the areas that are important to you and choose wisely.
1. Manufacturing quality – Are they solid? Is there attention to details? Do they have heavy duty parts and components for the openings?
2. Thermal efficiency – Are the frames thermally efficient? Do they have Low E coating? Are the air gaps wide enough and filled with gas? Do they have warm edge spacers?
3. Longevity and durability – Are the frames strong enough for your local climate? How many years can they last? Do they require regular maintenance?
4. Affordability – How much can you afford and are prepared to spend? What’s good value for money for you?
