I’m old enough to remember when you saw ‘Made in Japan’ on a product you automatically assumed the quality was going to be poor. Nowadays, when you see ‘Made in Japan’, you immediately think quality. Japan produces the best quality cars and electronics, without a doubt.
Likewise, when someone says ‘Made in China’, you’d be forgiven by thinking it’s a poor quality product.
So, here’s a question: What does an Apple iPhone, a Mercedes E200, a Coach handbag and an Airbus A320 have in common? Answer: They’re all made in China.
It’s common for people to perceive ‘Made in China’ is poor quality, but when you ask what people think of iPhones, Mercedes and Airbus aircraft, they automatically think of high quality, yet they are made in poor quality China, so what’s going on?
Chinese manufacturing has moved on and at a pace. Imagine if you had to source a product and you found a supplier who operated an old factory in a remote village with a dirt floor, 50 year old machinery and an illiterate workforce, would you expect to receive a quality product? Of course not.
Many buyers seem to think they can select the cheapest supplier and still expect the highest western standards of quality. Its really very simple, you get what you pay for.
If your purchasing decision is just based on price alone, know you’re not going to get high quality. You need to properly assess your potential suppliers and ideally visit their factory and review their systems to make sure they can deliver what you want and the quality you want.
These days, there is a whole spectrum of quality products from China, just like there is in Australia, you can get cheap, you can get expensive and you can get middle of the road products. These days, instead of getting what you pay for, you get what you ask for.
ML Windows has made that investment, we have visited the Chinese factories, we speak the language, we’ve spent a lot of time and effort to select what we feel are the best quality windows we’ve seen on the Australian market. Our factories manufacture quality products for European and North American markets as well as Australia, they know about quality and how to consistently produce quality products and ship them worldwide.
China has moved on and is rapidly replacing Japan with world class quality manufacturing and no longer is ‘Made in China’ seen as poor quality, but the exact opposite.
